Brain Awareness
As a first-generation college student, I am passionate about science communication and engaging young minds in the field of neuroscience. I strive to be a role model for learners of all ages who demonstrates that a career in the sciences is an accessible, attainable, rewarding career. I firmly believe that creativity and innovation in science thrives on diversity, and strongly encourage and advocate for women, LGBTQIA+, historically excluded groups (e.g., Black, Latine/x, Indigenous, AAPI folks), people with disabilities, and non-traditional students to be active members of the scientific community.
I have actively participated in and organized a number of brain awareness events in the community:
Brings elementary-aged children from Title I schools to ASU's campus to teach them about going to college, and how we study the brain through hands-on crafts, activities, and interactions with real scientists (founded by Dr. Bimonte-Nelson in 2010).
Travel to K-12 classrooms around the Phoenix area to talk to students about neuroscience, my research, and college at an age-appropriate level
ASU Open Door Brain Investigation Station (part of the Arizona SciTech Festival)
EduTech Expo at Phoenix Fan Fusion
